2011 was a pretty crazy year: strikes and gutters, ups and downs. Thumbs up for all your kind words and support and we hope to see you at one of our gigs during our 2012 club tour, starting in February.
It has become a tradition already: Dutch radio station 3FM takes over the airwaves in December to raise money for a good cause. This year the money will go to mothers in Africa: ‘This one’s for mama‘.
If you’re a soccer and/or music fan, then this is your chance: there’s an auction going on on Ebay, here you can bid on playing FIFA 12 against The Medics and our home town soccer club FC Utrecht. Of course we’ll be playing this competition in the Galgenwaard stadium.
Show us your skills! This will be a hell of a game, don’t you think? Bid now!
Don’t like FIFA? Here’s another one. Some friends of ours are willing to tattoo a red cross on their butt for this good cause. That’s dedication! Read all about it and donate here (in Dutch).
Last March we made our debut in De Wereld Draait Door, one of the biggest Dutch television shows. This Friday (December 9th) we will perform our song ‘Christmas Alarm‘ live on this show. Like!
More Christmas-related news: on December 23 we will play a show in the centre of Rotterdam on the 3FM Serious Request stage. It’s for a good cause, so come and show your support!
News flash! We’ve found a new drummer! Meet Bryan Hokkeling, 20 years old: ‘I’ve known The Medics for years and think this is a terrific live band with a lot of energy. I knew that there would be a lot of other drummers for this job, but during the audition I knew the vibe was good. I look forward to next year: write new songs and playing a lot of shows!’
So do we, Bryan! Speaking of which. These are the first confirmed dates of our 2012 tour:
Christmas songs. You either love them or hate them. We were asked to write a song for the compilation ‘So This Is Christmas’, together with a lot of good Dutch artists like Moke, De Staat, Pete Philly, Handsome Poets, The Souldiers and Miss Montreal. We decided to give it a shot. And it turned out great with the help of Guido and Brian.
Listen/download the compilation in iTunes or Spotify.
After a successful album tour our drummer Jasper has decided he will leave the band. We respect his decision and will surely miss him during rehearsals and on tour. Jasper will continue playing with the band until a new drummer takes his place. Read more about Jaspers decision here (in Dutch).
We are looking for a new drummer who lives in (or nearby) Utrecht, age between 20-30, willing to play 100 shows a year. Do you fit within this description? Mail us at drummer@themedics.nl!
Update: auditions are closed. Thanks for the massive respons. We’ll be back with a new drummer soon!
If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve probably noticed that we are featured on the soundtrack of FIFA 12. The game has been released only for a couple of days now and we’ve already been playing it every spare hour. However, we also want our fans to enjoy this experience! So we’ve got a few copies of FIFA 12 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to give away. Our debut album Dance Into The Dark comes along with it.
This is the deal:
Shoot an amusing picture that contains ‘The Medics’ and ‘football/FIFA’ in any way you like. Be creative, post your picture on our Facebook, tag The Medics and yourself in it (you have to like our page to do so). Before you know it: a brand new copy of FIFA 12 can be yours!
